Theme of the Week: Perceptions of Women

Does it make sense that the three women in one specific class fall at the bottom of the curve? Or that the one female professor I've ever had in ECE makes more sense than any other teacher I've had? Well, if you count the fact that the first professor I spoke of was atrocious, and the second one was just a good teacher, I'm sure sex doesn't matter... I think.

My bro says he wouldn't vote for a female to become president in this present day and age. I find that disturbing, but I'm afraid if his reasoning made sense, I'd be able to see his point of view. I haven't heard his argument yet. I do feel strongly that the president needs to be formidable, but a woman can be if she wants to be. With that said, I'm not sure if the current female president prospect has the right types of strength to do the job. Her exhibited emotion was kinda irritating, in my opinion. But to give credit where credit's do, the perspective of the "female" would need to change in order to give rise to a woman leading the nation... or maybe the conception of the female entity will change with the leadership of a woman. We may soon find out.

I definitely found myself in a female moment this week, letting my emotions get the best of me, only to prompt an irritating conversation depicting one's dedication to unbiased treatment of males and females. This got me thinking, what would I think of myself if I was another person? Quite disturbing, actually.Oh well. Hormones will be hormones.

I Just Messed Up The Thursday Thing...

I definitely started drafting a post yesterday, but I'm not sure what happened to it.

I went to the dentist, and my missing cavity was actually a missing chunk of tooth. Aparently, it's broken and I have to wait for insurance to sign off on it. Yay! On a brighter note, the rest of my teeth are in decent shape.

Now, to address a topic: I feel like I'm getting old. For many reasons, one because of the "grandma" cap I'm wearing right now, but for some valid other reasons too. The reason I'll exploit today is music.

Was the R&B/Rap music that I listened to of a different calibur than the crap that's on today, or was I in some kind of adolescent abyss, where I knew no better? I feel like songs/beats/tracks are regurgitated at a faster rate for two reasons. First, the beats that are sampled this year came from last year. Second, the songs that are sampled weren't even that great. I'm singing the lyrics to a song that came out a year ago to a song that came out yesterday. Is the industry really that lackluster? I'll comfort myself with the naiive thought that maybe the media strips artists of their creativity, forcing them to produce what sells. What I don't understand is, why wouldn't fresh, new music sell? Maybe their thinking the internet age of listeners will just download the mess anyway, so the quality of these sounds to listen to matters not.

My wishful self was hoping that a new movement would be inspired by the recent political action; specifically the race to get Bush out of the white house, from the republican side or the democratic side. Didn't Ludacris endorse Obama to some extent? Why can't we get tracks to address the primaries? It really can't be that hard. I'm sick and tired of tracks that have no significance whatsoever. I choose to retreat to light music, Jazz, classical, Regaetton (because the beats are awesome and I can't understand it). If I didn't speak English, I swear I would like our rap more.

Back to school work.

No Glass Class

I was looking forward to taking Molding Moretti, or even Beadmaking II at the Pittsburgh Glass Center, but it was cancelled due to lack of interest. I guess I'll rent space every now and again. Hopefully I can participate in a week-long intensive after I graduate.

After I graduate! Just 14 weeks or so left to go. I need to find a place to live. I need to get the most I can get out of CMU. I need to go to sleep in order to get to yoga at 7:00am... goodnight.

And another one...

I'm free and loving it! It's a lot easier to get things done when your mind is clear-and when your professors want you to learn the material.  I can already tell that the professors l have this semester are a great bunch.

Having time to sit in the living room and enjoy the company of My roommate is also a plus. No stories to till this week. At least, I can't think of any at this point in time.  I'll give this site a new face soon enough.

A New Beginning

So far, I've kept it up. Barely, but I have. I have maintained a weekly entry for the 2008 year.

This week, my last on break, was slow but necessary. I have bitten the bullet, and I have resigned from office. I can sleep a bit better, but I will always feel that I have let the world down.

On a happier note, I had dinner with my grandmother, mother, and godmother. I hope I'm that coherent when I'm 88 years old. I will miss being home. This long stretch of time has allowed me to chill, spend time with my bro, my boyfriend, and various beds. Just what the doctor ordered. Hopefully it will bring me to a fresh start for my final semester.

Almost Done

It's finally here. The year I graduate from Carnegie Mellon. I've decided that I'll try to write every Thursday (we'll see how well I keep that going). School is taking its toll on me. I'm tired. I want out!! Updates regarding this last semester will be posted.

I'm BACK

I'm back... It's been too long, and I have WAY too much to write. Hopefully, I'll be able to document everything accordingly. No time now... RLC is underway.

Man, I haven't written in a while

So I was having a discussion with my wonderful roommate, and she's talking about how she's writing in her diary. I'm like wow, I haven't done that in a while. The last time I wrote in a diary was when I went to Japan a couple years back. I remember it being a wonderful stress reliever, as well as great documentation (i.e., I have a whole book for prom with pics).

Then I thought to myself, wait - my blogdrive page - it's been my diary for the past couple years. I can definitely say it's been a wonderful thing.

Not much has happened recently, in the middle of nowhere, as I like to call it. Titus refuses to call it that, considering it bears similarity to his wonderful little hometown. Difference is, HE HAS A CAR. There are many things around me, in a suburban sort of way, but not walking distance. "Close" has a whole new meaning. Five minutes means five miles, as opposed to five blocks or five buildings across campus. I'm used to my primary mode of transportation being my feet, my secondary transportation being city transit, and my tertiary mode being a car. Here, my primary mode of transportation is carpool, my secondary mode is a cab, and my tertiary mode is city, excuse me, suburban transit. If I can get to the city, things happily transform back to the first heirachy of "getting around".  I haven't had that priveledge but twice in over a month.

Transportation has also aided in making things RIDICULOSLY hard for me. Case in point: my hair. How long have I been trying to get it done? Weeks. I decided micros would be the best thing - because it would last the longest. Apparently not that many people do micros that aren't far away or open when I need them to be. But you know what? That's basically the case for braids and relaxers as well! How the Hungry E Leaping Lizzard am I going to be able to get my hair done if I can't even get to a grocery store by myself? I mean, geez!

So that is the current plight, ladies and gentlemen. I can't even say I wish I had a car - with gas prices being the way they are, my frugality, and my terribly short driving history, why? However, I do note that there ten times as many car dealerships as there are grocery stores for a reason.

I'm Done!!!

Man... it was a long day yesterday. In fact, I started this post yesterday but couldn't bring myself to finish it. Two 3 hours exams take a lot out of you. I'd write about the los of my tablet, but that's too painful right now.

So I have today, tomorrow, and Friday - and then I'm off to relocate in order to start work on Monday! Not much of a break, but work shouldn't be too stressful.

I'm going to update the site a bit, not too much, as I am quite smitten with the current color scheme. The buttons need changing, this I know, and the banner will definitely change as well.

Until then, enjoy the page as it is now.

That Mysterious Middle Name

Not too long ago, I was in Moodisan's room (as usual) when I came across a class ring sitting on his desk. Knowing it could not have been his, I inquired as to the ownership of the oversized piece of jewelry. He informed me that it belonged to our wonderful friend Lampshade. This circular piece of metal was so big that I could fit my class ring through it with EASE. Inscribed inside the ring was the following:

(Lampshade's first name)* C. B. Lampkin

*Although his first name has probably been mentioned somewhere on previous blogs, I will withold his first name to preserve his dignity - I mean privacy.

This peaked my curiousity. What could C. B. stand for? Was it a real middle name or a fake middle name? I mean, not that many people have two middle names who aren't married. So, I guessed that it could be a nickname. For those of you that are familiar with the chronicles of Babygat, you might assume or suggest the following:

Country Boy
Country Beaver

I also came up with additional hilarious, but unprobable, solutions to the puzzle:

Crack Baby
Classy Bumpkin
Cool Baller

I was sitting at my computer today, when my wonderful AIM Triton informed me that Lampshade had signed on.

ME:            yo, I got a question
LAMP:        ???
ME:            what's your middle name?
LAMP:        Cliffton Beckwith

I choose to end this entry here - enough said.
